It is one of the hardest materials available and suitable for most applications. Due to adhesive pickup, Zirconia tips are not recommended for scanning aluminum parts.

M2 Ø0.3 mm tungsten carbide hemispherical ended stylus, L 10 mm, EWL 2.7 mm

Cylinder styli can be used in situations where correct contact with a ball stylus cannot be guaranteed, such as applications with sheet metal, pressed components or thin work pieces. A stainless stem offers excellent rigidity and is ideal for applications where weight is not critical.

M2 Ø1 mm Silicon Nitride ball, tungsten carbide stem, L 20 mm, EWL 7 mm

Straight styli are designed to inspect simple features where direct, unobstructed contact with a measured surface is possible. A tungsten carbide stem provides exceptional rigidity, particularly for styli with small ball and stem diameters. Silicon nitride is similar to ruby in terms of its physical properties. Its lower coefficient of friction makes it ideal for use with most scanning applications, particularly aluminum parts. Silicon nitride is not recommended for scanning cast iron due to abrasive wear.
